Nelson - Saved for mortality

As you might guess, this is Nelson, currently as I type, he is lying across my lap, digging in his claws if I threaten to move!

Here’s another pointless post.

We recently gave a home to a beautiful, pure white Persian cat, who has the unfortunate name of Nelson. The previous owner, an Englishman, posted on the internet that, essentially, he had to have a new home by a certain time, or he would be set loose in the fields. I waited and waited and nobody came forward, so some six hours before the deadline I offered Nelson a home.
When he arrived, he was in a very sorry state. Badly matted fur, coated in his own excreta and with some bad sores and a three by one inch abscess on his lower chest. We have cut away the mats, washed and combed his fur and treated his sores and abscess, he is now, I firmly believe, the most beautiful cat alive, both to see and in temperament. When I am home, he follows me like a dog and Meows most pitifully if he thinks I am not paying him enough attention.
The point of this story? For the first month or so after Nelson came to live with us, he was desperately timid. He used to hide from everybody and never appeared if anybody was around. Everything changed quite out of the blue one morning. I woke up to hear a constant series, of plaintive Meowing from outside the bedroom door. I opened it and Nelson came in, doing his cat impression and trying to trip me up on the way to the bathroom. He hasn’t looked back since!
That evening I checked in on the internet to find that Nelson’s previous owner had died that morning from a heart attach. He was only 43 years old.

Funny innit.....

This put me in mind of Robin Williams’ Patch Adams and his discussion about death in that film. (If you have never seen the film, you should do so. Go out and purchase a DVD today. You can send it to me when you have finished with it!)

Follow the instructions!

Invitation front page. Please come!

Tuesday.

Well, the children are back at school today and I have time to do some more preparation for this party.
(Note to self: Post party invitation on the blog.)

So I took the kids to school and was collared by their teachers. Not too much suffering there, they must be four of the most beautiful teachers and teachers' assistants in charge of any classes anywhere. And they teach my little ones. Strewth, life is hard. It truly is amazing how a smile from a pretty lady can light up your life for hours afterwards.
After doing the school run, tried to have breakfast, but was foiled by the juicing machine deciding to have a smoke. The second in a month and I don't over work them, honestly.
After breakfast, checked email and posted on Thaivisa.com. Having great fun stirring a bit and arguing the issues with Neo-Con Bush supporters. It is truly astounding how dumb some of these people can be.

Fun over, went to collect some wood shavings. Discovered a guy who turns mango logs to make vases. So helprd him dispose of about a ton of shavings by bringing them home. They will be used to smoke fish & other interesting foodstuffs in my home made smoker. While there negotiated to purchase a dozen large Mango logs to use as garden seats. He insisted on charging 100 Baht each (quite a good price.) He purchased them from near Bangkok for 80 each and had to transport them up, about 400 Kms. We bargained for a while and settled on 95 Baht.
Problem was I only had 830 Baht in total, so he let them go for that. Said it was the first time he had ever traded with a Thai speaking Farang, and hoped we were not all the same in business.

This is a test post. I just want to see how it works with pictures.

This photo was taken on 31st December 2003 and is a grouping of my children; Pung, Tom-Tom, Gobby and Kanny in my garden.

First Post

Well, I've signed up to blog. Do not quite know yet what to post here, but I hope I'll find a worthwhile reason for it over time.
Whatever, I will not give anybody the URL quite yet. Let's see how things pan out for a while first.

Lets start with a little biography and a diary entry.
I shall retain a little bit of privacy by not posting my real name, nor those of my wife or children. I live in Northern Thailand close to the city of Chiang Mai. I live with my wife, SassyAnn and four children, of whom two, Gobby (14) & Pung (12) are at school overseas. The litle ones, Kanny (5) & Tom-Tom (4) are currently in a state of high excitement, awaiting their birthdays later this week and next. They are also talking nineteen to the dozen about their birthday party, The Monsters' Ball, to be held on Halloween.
At home we have quite a menagerie, which I will detail over time if I become interested in contributing regularly to this blog.

Today, is Monday the 25th October and the children have been enjoying the final day of their half term. We spent much of the day visiting their old school, to get phone numbers for their old friends. We have also been hunting down a kilo of mint leaves, to make a drink for the party, and some fireworks. Needless to say the excitement level has gone well past boiling point.
That will do for now. I'll think about this now and decide if I wish to keep it up.
